Emergence
Spring 2022, North Carolina & Virginia

Emergence is an exploration of springtime in North Carolina and Virginia and is focused on the plants and flowers I encountered as they woke up from their winter slumbers. These are the first works where I began to experiment with layering multiple photographs together to tell a fuller visual story of the plant under investigation.

Each piece depicts a single plant found in the wild or landscaped areas. The individual “plates” of the final works were created with a macro photography technique that produces a soft, painterly image, and then combined into dreamlike compositions.
