Ashlie Johnson Coggins is a fine art photographer and artist based in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Her work focuses on the ephemeral beauty and sublime strangeness of the natural world. Unable to fully accept the fleeting, and wanting to get ever-closer to the tiny mysteries held within nature, she uses a macro photography technique that requires her body, eyes, and hands to move in concert with the subject, bringing its tiny details to larger-than-life artworks. The results are dimensional, painterly images that draw upon the improvisational tradition of abstract expressionism.

Through her art practice, Ashlie researches native and non-native plant species, connects more deeply to nature through close observation, learns about local ecosystems, and explores themes of connection, cyclicality, rhythm, and movement.

In addition to her fine art practice, Ashlie is part of the Electro Creative Workshop at The Clorox Company, working as a Senior Designer for Burt’s Bees and Fresh Step, with a focus on design, photography, video, and illustration for social and digital media.
